01 - Overview
The Pinkaradweg (B54) is a roughly 32-kilometre, fully paved circular ride through the upper Pinka valley in the gentle rolling hills of southern Burgenland. From Pinkafeld the family-friendly loop runs via Wiesfleck and the Schützen villages to the district town of Oberwart and back through Riedlingsdorf - with barely any noticeable climbs, but orchard meadows, riverside woods along the Pinka and quiet villages. A short spur leads to the thermal-spa region of Bad Tatzmannsdorf with its open-air museum.
The Pinkaradweg circles the upper Pinka valley between Pinkafeld and Oberwart - an easy, fully paved loop through the gentle hill country of southern Burgenland that can be joined at any village along the ring. Pinkafeld, the northern town in the valley, makes a natural starting point with its old centre, the Baroque Schloss Batthyány and the old pillory on the main square. Via Wiesfleck the route swings through orchard meadows and over gentle rises to the Schützen villages: at Willersdorf a small school museum and a cooperage museum invite a stop, while Oberschützen is an old centre of learning with its Protestant school and cultural centre. Near Unterschützen, at the easternmost point of the ring, a short spur branches off to the thermal-spa region of Bad Tatzmannsdorf, whose South Burgenland open-air museum preserves the region’s old thatched farmhouses. Further south the loop reaches Oberwart, the lively district town on the Pinka with the OHO cultural centre. From there the western arc runs quietly through meadows and along the riverside woods of the Pinka via Riedlingsdorf, with its fish ponds, back to Pinkafeld. Because the route is almost level and never far from a village, it is especially suited to families and to leisurely outings. At the Schützen villages it connects to the Four Seasons Cycle Path and to the rail-trail on the former Pinkatalbahn.
